Shakedown Run in the E90 M3 | WASCC Season Opener Test Day

Shakedown Run in the E90 M3 | WASCC Season Opener Test Day

With the 2025 race season kicking off, we hit the WA Sporting Car Club Free Tuning Day to give the new E90 M3 Production Car its first proper shakedown. This session was all about running in the engine under 6000rpm, getting a feel for the car, and making sure everything was working as expected before we start pushing the limits.

First Impressions – A Solid Start!

Right from the first lap, the M3 felt incredibly balanced and responsive. The DCT gearbox is an absolute game-changer, delivering lightning-fast shifts that make a huge difference in keeping the power down through corners. Coming from the VE Commodore, it’s a completely different beast, but I’m already loving the way this car handles.

The goal for the day was simple: get some laps in, shake the car down, and make sure everything mechanical was performing as expected. Mission accomplished!

A Small Hiccup – Semi-Slick Failure

Of course, no test day is without its challenges. Unfortunately, we had an old semi-slick tyre tear a bead, cutting our session short. While frustrating, it’s all part of the process. Better to find these issues now rather than on a race weekend! The important part is that the car itself performed flawlessly, which is a big win.

What’s Next?

With the shakedown complete and everything working well, the next step is to dial in the suspension, brakes, and setup to make sure the car is fully race-ready. There’s plenty to refine, but this was a strong first outing, and I can’t wait to push it harder in the coming weeks.
